EN: Linyon is a social business for the capacitation and professional reinsertion of migrants and refugees. It acts as a bridge to the Brazilian job market, and it also facilitates trainings about innovation and cultural intelligence for businesses.

My Inspiration
EN: The idea behind Linyon came up when, in 2011, I went to Dublin-Ireland. Back then, even with a good CV and contacts, I wasn’t able to get a job in my area, facing labor-related issues. Without having an organization to help me it became clear to me how much foreigners, common immigrants but especially refugees and humanitarian migrants are susceptible to many different types of exploitation — labor or economically related.
PT: A ideia do Linyon surgiu quando, em 2011, fui morar uma temporada em Dublin, na Irlanda. Na ocasião, mesmo com um bom currículo e bons contatos, não consegui me inserir em um emprego na minha área e ainda, enfrentei problemas trabalhistas. Sem ter a quem recorrer, ficou claro para mim, o quanto os estrangeiros, sejam migrantes comuns e ainda mais, refugiados e migrantes humanitários, estão suscetíveis à uma série de explorações, trabalhistas e econômicas.
My Biggest Challenge
EN: In the midst of an uncertain scenario of economic crisis, people normally tend to blame the immigrant as the person responsible for the situation — ignoring the cultural, social and economic contributions that other generations of immigrants have brought to countries like Brazil and the United States. Our challenge is to show that we all have the right to search for the same opportunities, regardless of where our passport is from, and to show how cultural diversity can be of great innovation potential when we look at it the right way. We all have something to learn and something to teach.
PT: Em meio a um cenário de incertezas e crises econômicas, normalmente as pessoas tendem a transformar o imigrante no responsável pela situação, porém, ignoram as contribuições, culturais, sociais e econômicas, que outras gerações de imigrantes trouxeram para países como Brasil e EUA. Nosso desafio é mostrar que todos temos o direito de buscar às mesmas oportunidades, independente do nosso passaporte, e mostrar o quanto a diversidade cultural pode ser um grande potencial de inovação, se soubermos aproveitá-la da maneira correta. Todos nós sempre temos algo a aprender e algo a ensinar.
My Best Resources
EN: I wasn’t very experienced in the management and business areas, and because of that I’ve searched for training, courses, and accelerators that could help us develop our business model and validate our idea. Besides, I tried talking to as many people as possible, people whom I knew could contribute somehow, either by sharing their personal experiences, business contacts, and ideas, or contributing directly to the project. Up to this day, the people on our network are the most precious resource we have.
PT: Por não ter muito conhecimento da área de gestão e desenvolvimento de projetos, desde o inicio busquei cursos, treinamentos e aceleradoras que pudessem nos ajudar a desenvolver nosso modelo de negócios e validar nossa ideia. Além disso, busquei conversar com o máximo de pessoas possíveis, mas pessoas que eu sabia que poderiam contribuir de alguma forma, seja contando suas experiências pessoais, auxiliando com alguma ideia ou contato, e até mesmo, contribuindo diretamente para o projeto. Até hoje, as pessoas da nossa rede são o recurso mais precioso que temos.
My Advice to Peers
EN: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, everyone is on the same journey, testing and learning through their own mistakes. A lot of people will doubt you and put you down, but if you truly believe in your mission, surround yourself with those who inspire you because they’ll help you to get wherever you want. The sky is the limit.
PT: Não tenha medo de errar, todo mundo está na mesma jornada, testando e aprendendo com seus próprios erros. Muitas pessoas vão duvidar, vão tentar fazer você desistir e te desmotivar, mas se você acredita profundamente na sua missão, cerque-se daqueles que admira e te inspiram, pois são essas pessoas que vão te auxiliar a chegar onde você quiser. O céu é o limite.
